Jarvie Plant Group (Jarvie) is a successful family owned business with 60 years of trading and is one of the leading independent plant hire companies within the construction sector. Jarvie has its headquarters in Grangemouth with eight additional depots located throughout Scotland and one in Manchester in North West England.

Jarvie is a multi-faceted business with five focused product groups, each providing specialist services within their respective fields; Jarvie Plant, JP Handling, JP Accommodation, JP Power and JP Vehicle Rentals.

Jarvie is profitable with healthy cash reserves that enable the business to make the right long term investment decisions. The business generates revenues of c£18m with employee numbers of around 145 in total. However, the full scale of the business is best represented by the fact that at any one time there are c£60m of assets under ownership.

With a strong reputation in the sector, long established family ownership and a talented and long-standing team, Jarvie is well positioned to thrive with confidence in future.

The Opportunity

Due to the upcoming retirement of the current Finance Director in March 2021, the business has a requirement to recruit a high calibre replacement. This role will support and report into the Group Board, while sitting on the Board of one of the Divisions, though it is envisaged that this will become a full Group Board role in time.

The Finance Director will be based in the Head Office in Grangemouth, leading the central finance team, but will spend time at other depots as required. This is very much a commercial finance position with significant interaction with all levels of the business, so it is important that the individual is close to the operations and visible to key stakeholders

The view is to recruit a senior Financial Controller moving into their first No.1 role, or a Finance Director seeking a larger and/or better opportunity. With either option, it is key that the individual has the ambition, skills and experience to grow with the business over time as it develops, especially should M&A be a likely activity in years to come as the business continually seeks to expand into new markets.

This position represents an exceptional career opportunity for an ambitious and driven Accountant, who is able to provide sound financial stewardship to an established family business and make a positive impact on strategic decision making.

The Individual

This is a key position within a complex, fast paced organisation and the successful candidate will play a critical role in helping maintain a sustainable model, while seeking opportunities that take the business into new markets. The Finance Director will be involved in supporting and managing stakeholders across the business, helping identify and develop strategies to maximise revenue and profit growth.

Jarvie is keen to attract a “hands-on” individual who is comfortable executing the more transactional elements of finance, while ensuring that the management information requirements of the Executive team are consistently met and exceeded. It is likely that the Finance Director will need to make improvements to the finance infrastructure, so experience of implementing systems, processes and reporting, whilst also developing the people to deliver to a consistently high standard, is essential.

First class communication skills, strong commercial and strategic acumen and an ability to manage a wide range of stakeholders are all essential in what is very much a people and relationship led business.
