At Livingston James Group, we are here to advise and support people and organisations to realise their potential so that together we can impact lives and communities for the better. For over 10 years, we have aimed to raise money for a chosen charity by embarking on various challenges and hosting fundraising events. Recently, Director Sophie Randles was appointed as a Scottish Council Member for The Outward Bound Trust (OBT), a charity very close to her heart, and so in line with one of our company values ‘Together We Achieve More’ it was fitting that OBT would be our chosen charity this year.
The Outward Bound Trust
The Outward Bound Trust’s core mission is to inspire young people to realise their potential through learning and adventure in the outdoors. Through wild adventures and life-changing experiences, they inspire young people to believe they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.
The Loch Eil Learning Village
In Scotland, The Outward Bound Trust achieves long-term outcomes for young people through residential courses at its Loch Eil centre. We are fundraising to help the charity complete the final part of its refurbishment at the Loch Eil Learning Village. This project will see 10 pods created onsite – one pod for each group of 12 young people. The pods will be situated around a communal firepit on the grounds of the centre and built to survive the Highlands weather (and midges!), with a life span of 50+ years. Within that period, the village will support approximately 300,000 young people!
Livingston James Group’s fundraising efforts will directly support the construction of one learning pod.
The Annual LJG Charity Quizzes
Following the success of the Quiz Night in Glasgow last year, we decided to replicate our vision by hosting two quizzes, one in Edinburgh and one in Glasgow, with the aim of doubling our fundraising efforts (as our goal is £15,000!)
Kicking things off on Thursday 1st August, the Glasgow Quiz Night was once again kindly hosted by BoxHub. With nine teams competing, the scores were tight, however one team came out victorious with a score of 35/51. With over £700 raised in the raffle alone, there were some great prizes including £200 of Slaters Menswear vouchers, a signed Tom Kerridge cookbook and the ‘coveted’ Air Fryer – if you know, you know! The evening concluded with an auction, before some relaxed networking and drinks.
On Thursday 22nd August, it was Edinburgh’s turn to host a quiz night, with The Grange Cricket Club providing the perfect location. Nine strong teams competed, and some guests who attended both nights commented that the questions were slightly harder in Edinburgh! With just over £700 raised in the raffle, the evening again headed towards the auction, with bidders competing for prizes such as a signed Edinburgh Rugby Shirt, as well as a dining experience at The Free Company.
With a combined total of over £8,000, the team at Livingston James Group would like to extend a big thank you to all who donated raffle and auction prizes, and those who took the time to come along; the success of both evenings would not have been achieved without this support. Stay tuned for next year’s dates!
The Corporate Challenge Event
As we continue our fundraising efforts, our challenge team is preparing for one of our biggest challenges yet. On Saturday 14th September 2024, we will take ourselves out of our comfort zones and undertake our own Outward Bound challenge. A full day of adventure will start with an ascent of the UK’s highest peak, Ben Nevis – 16km of walking with a 1,345m climb, followed by a 7km canoe paddle on Loch Eil to the centre.
If you would like to contribute towards the Loch Eil Learning Village and support the team in this adventure you can donate through our JustGiving Page here.
