Curtis Moore – Finance Director – Glasgow – £Highly Competitive

Curtis Moore Ltd is a family run business established in 2000 by Andrew Devlin, a Quantity Surveyor and his wife Yvonne Devlin, a Chartered accountant. Curtis Moore Ltd specialises in roofing, cladding and building facades, and operates throughout the UK on both industrial and commercial projects. Their portfolio of projects proudly boasts some of the construction industry’s most prestigious and award-winning buildings across multiple sectors including rail, energy and sporting venues.

The headquarters is a state-of-the-art premises in the Hillington Industrial Estate Glasgow but expansion and growth is very much part of their plans; they already have a regional office in Manchester and have further ambitions to open in other key areas throughout the UK and, potentially, internationally.

Curtis Moore generates revenues of c£25m and employs 73 staff, though those numbers increase significantly when sub-contractors are engaged on large projects. With a strong reputation in the sector and a talented and long-standing team, the business is well positioned to thrive in future with confidence.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the sound financial stewardship of Curtis Moore (Cladding Systems) Ltd. Over time, it is envisaged that the individual will become responsible for other group companies, involved in areas such as property and aviation, which will constitute a move up into a Group Finance Director position. The Finance Director will be involved in supporting and managing stakeholders across the business; helping identify and develop strategies to maximise revenue and profit growth.

Curtis Moore is seeking to recruit an experienced Finance Director with a proven track record of success achieved within businesses of similar size and ownership structure. It is key that the individual has the ambition, skills and experience to grow with the business over time as it develops, especially as securing new clients, continuing diversification and the opening of new regional offices are all very much part of the future agenda.

The Individual

Curtis Moore is a complex, fast paced company and the successful candidate will play a critical role in helping maintain a sustainable model, while seeking opportunities that take the business into new markets. It is likely that the Finance Director will need to make improvements to the finance infrastructure, so experience of implementing systems, processes and reporting, whilst also developing the people to deliver to a consistently high standard, is essential.

It is of particular importance that the individual provides strong support and challenge to the Managing Director, especially in areas such as gross margin, and takes a pro-active approach to identifying improvements across the business.

It would be advantageous if candidates have a background in the construction sector or from similar “project-led” business environments where there is a focus on long-term contracts, but this is by no means a necessity as an experienced team is already in place possessing significant industry knowledge. In addition, there is a desire to attract an individual from another mid-sized business environment where candidates are used to significant breadth of role and the culture of working in a privately owned company. However, above all is the requirement for the right fit for the business and its people, so applications are welcomed from individuals from a range of backgrounds.

Please note that any direct or third party approaches will be sent to Livingston James for review and assessment.
