Why Purpose Matters – Livingston James Partnering with Organisations to Make a Difference

Douglas Adam, Director of Public & Not-for-Profit at Livingston James, looks at the importance of purpose, and why at Livingston James we’re proud to support the Public & Not for Profit sectors to make the biggest impact possible for the communities they serve.

“We are here to advise and support people and organisations to realise their potential so that together we can impact lives and communities for the better.”

In early 2020, just before the pandemic, employees and board directors at the Livingston James Group came together to define our purpose, and what it means to be a part of our organisation.  The process involved much discussion, introspection, and debate, that eventually resulted in the statement above.

Working in the Public & Not-for-Profit sector for over 20 years, I understand that the impact of getting the right person in the right role at the right time can be huge and far reaching.  Over the last twelve months, we have placed roles in charities supporting mental health, children and disabilities; economic development organisations, education establishments and many more.  Each of the recent successful appointments highlighted below has truly enabled the organisations we work for to impact lives and communities for the better.

At Livingston James, our aim is to continue to support clients and candidates in the Public & Not for Profit sector to achieve their organisational and personal goals in order to have the greatest impact for communities across Scotland and beyond.

Giving Back at Livingston James Group

In addition to supporting our key clients in the Public & Not-for-Profit sector to make an impact in their communities, we at Livingston James are focused on making an impact in our own communities.  Each LJG employee is given two CSR days they can use to give back to organisations they value.  This has seen our people engage with a variety of organisations including Wooden Spoon, Tennis Scotland, Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society and Bethany Christian Trust.

We also donate a portion of our profits to our chosen charities, selected by our employees annually, and voted on by our clients and candidates; and run regular fundraising events such as our recent Munro Challenge which saw some of the team climb Beinn Narnian and Beinn Ime to raise money for Alzheimer Scotland, MacMillan Cancer Research, and Marie Curie UK.
